Basilica Minor Máriabesnyő - guided tours

Therese road

The tour starts off with the introduction of the Lower Church built in 1761-1771. The next stop is the Grassalkovich crypt, the tomb of one of the richest families in the 18th century Hungarian history. The visitor will have an opportunity to see one of the most beautiful baroque tombs of the country: the marble sarcofag of Antal Grassalkovich I and his wife, Terezia Klobusiczky.   The next stop is the Upper Church, the Basilica Minor of Our Lady the Holy Virgin which Pope Benedict XVI voted and proclaimed a Basilica Minor in 2008.  The two altars of this unique monument hold two Virgin Mary Statues. The 11 cm tall statue, the smallest in Hungary, was miraculously found in 1759, and since then, because of miraculous happenings attributed to the Virgin Mary, Máriabesnyő Basilica Minor has become a pilgrimage site.
