Battle of Isaszeg Memorial

The memorial created by Gyula Szász and inaugurated in 1899 commemorates a victorious historical event in Hungarian history: that of the victorious Battle of Isaszeg, a crucial battle of the Hungarian War of Independence of 1848-48. The battle was fought and won by Artúr Görgey and his troops against the Austrian troops in Isaszeg, 6 April. A lot of the victims were buried in Gödöllő, some in Isaszeg and the rest in Katonapallag in commemorative graves. The battle is commemorated each year on 6 April on the historical battleground of Szobor (Statue) hill with soldiers dressed for the occasion. It is an unforgettable sight.
