Szabadság (Liberty) square

Gödöllő's main square can be reached with a short walk from the the suburban tran stop "Szabadság tér"(Liberty square).  Its sights are: right from Dózs György road: Municipal office, today the renovated building hosts Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Reformed Church (9 Liberty square)  Town Hall (7 Liberty square) World Peace Gong (righthand of Town Hall), Hamvay Mansion (5 Liberty square) Gödöllő Town Museum (5 Liberty square) Town market, Pelican Well (5 Liberty square). 

As a part of the New Hungary Development Plan, the whole main square has been comletely renovated.  The secession atmosphere of the pre-World War II period was destroyed by the drastic socialist rebuilding era when old buildings were demolished in favor of new blocks of flats. Part of the renovation of the main square is to, as much as possible, bring old time atmosphere back to the square. Thus 46 secession candelabers provide for the lighting of the square and a singing fountain is being built in front of the Reformed Church.
