The Scout statue

Szabadság road

The statue was inaugurated ten years after the World Scout Conference (Jamboree) in 1933. The work of Lőrinc Siklódi stood five years facing the Royal Guards' Barracks and was destroyed when the scouting movements was banned in Communist Hungary. Some time later the statue disappeared. Following the end of the Soviet Regime in Hungary the scouting movement revived and a new statue was erected on the old pedestal. This was the work of art of István Paál, a student of Zsigmond Kisfaludi Stróbl and the new statue was the enlarged version of his statuette. The 50cm statue was inaugurated on 24 April 1994. The pedestal was completed with reliefs showing the portraits of important scouting personages: Olav and Robert Baden Powell, founders of World Scout Movement, Antonia Lindenmayer, organiser of 1939 World Girl Scout Conference (Pax Ting) Gödöllő and Count Pál Teleki, first Hungarian Chief Scout and organizer of the 1933 Jamboree in Gödöllő.
