The equestrian statue of Duke Coloman

The son of Andrew II and a great patron of the Premonstrant Church, Duke Coloman (1208-1240) of Árpád House became the king of Holic at the age of six. Duke Colman helped build the Premonstrant Monastery in Jászó with land and money. The duke found his death after he was severely injured in a battle against the Tatars in 1241.  Two other historical personages, also victims of the same battle, Ugrin archbishop of Kalocsa and Jakab Montreáli, grand master of the Equestrian Order, are seen on the two sides of the pedestal. The equestrian statue of Duke Coloman was erected on orders by the Premonstrant Church in remembrance of their generous and honorable patron. The inauguration ceremony of the statue was held in 1931.
