Premonstrant Church

Fácán Street (Fácán sor)

The Premonstrant Order of the Catholic Church came to Gödöllő in 1924. When in 1929 the Order had created a novitiate and a theological university of its own, the provost declared it a holy see. The complex housed a school, a convictus and the monastery on a large area in the beautiful forest environment. The former Agrarian University, now Szent István University became the proprietor of the complex after the Premonstrant Church too was dissolved. The new Premonstrant Church was built not far away from the university, in Fácán street (Fácán sor). The church was consecrated in 1993. The noble simplicity of the church built in honor of the Holy Spirit is counteracted by the beauty of the 16 square metres stained glass window on the back wall, which actually acts as the altar picture of the church. The designs were made by a member and founder of the Art Colony Gödöllő, Sándor Nagy. The work is that of Erzsébet Szekeres, a major handicraft artist.
