The Statue of Saint Florian

The statue at the Firefighters' Building is one that shows the patron saint of the firefighters: Saint Florian (?- 303). It is a statue made in the classicist style.  Saint Florian was an officer in the Roman Army. He rescued his comrades from a burning forest and died as a martyr of Christianity when he was thrown in water because of his belief. At his grave in Lorch, Austria there is the Monastery of the Order of Saint Augustine. The tribute for Saint Florian started in the 18th century when two miracle stories were discovered: while he was praying, the flames in a house on fire were extinguished, and he rescued a charcoal burner who was caught by the fire and asked for water in his pray.
